Luca Inserra
Luca Inserra is a principal at Milliman, based in Madrid, where he manages Milliman’s consulting business in Spain and Portugal. Luca has over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry mainly in consulting in a number of insurance markets, including the US, UK, Australia, and continental Europe. He joined the firm in 2009.
Experience
Luca has depth of experience and has taken on key roles in insurance mergers and acquisitions, portfolio transfers and monetizations, product development, risk management, economic valuation and capital, Solvency II, and IFRS 17.
Mergers, acquisitions and transfers
Luca has significant experience advising insurance companies in insurance M&A, with key roles in approximately 40 major transactions (in the US, UK, and continental Europe), in which he worked in the areas of business planning, products, actuarial and economic valuation, risk assessment, and structuring.
He is a senior actuarial expert and advisor in M&A in the Spanish and Portuguese markets.
IFRS 17
Luca is currently advising a number of clients in the practical implementation of actuarial and other processes to meet the requirements of IFRS17 and the strategic aspects of methodology choices.
Economic valuation and performance
Luca has extensive experience in economic valuation of insurance companies in a number of international markets. He has defined and led the implementation of tools that give a holistic view of value, risk, and capital.
Product development
During his career, Luca has been involved in a number of projects related to product design and pricing in protection, savings and pensions business, and in feasibility studies, retention, and validation of business plans.
Risk management and Solvency II
Luca has defined and led the implementation of Solvency II solutions in all three pillars (quantitative, ORSA, and reporting). He has advised clients on capital optimisation strategies under Solvency II.
Digital and analytics
Luca is interested in the need for insurers to adapt their actuarial control and development cycles to the “digital” world, and industrializing traditional actuarial processes. He is also an advocate for cutting through the noise in order to focus on how to put analytics to work in the insurance industry.
